Hawa Mahal,”Palace of Winds” or “Palace of the Breeze”. is a palace in Jaipur, India.
It is constructed of red and pink sandstone.
Hawa Mahal has the high screen. The screen wall is for the women of the royal household so they can observe street festivals while unseen from the outside. Constructed of red and pink sandstone, the palace sits on the edge of the City Palace.
The structure was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. Rajasthan, as its name suggests, is the land of Raja’s (Kings).
After independence democratic India witnessed the merger of the Princely states of Rajputana, an abolition of ‘Jagirs’ and land reforms, finally the withdrawal of the special privileges from the royal families a few decades after 1947.
These noble families lost their traditional means of livelihood and even the wealthy merchants left their homes for more lucrative pastures.
Now, some of the ancestral homes find sustenance in this new lease of life as heritage hotels.
Every ancestral home is different, but they are unique they have history tradition and different time period.:)
